Course 3 Discussion 1: Crafting your Simulation Preparation
Make 1 discussion post to continue.
Make 1 discussion post to continue. As in Course 2 this will be a unique, multiphase discussion; It remains an exercise in peer review. You will: Assess Write your prebriefing and debriefing plans for your simulation plan (SBP). Make some refinements based on what you have learned so far. Receive and supply suggestions among your peers. Refine your preparation based on the feedback that you have received. When you have completed this task, you will return to learn more in the course. Step 1: Summarize your Simulation; Remind Your Peers About Your Simulation; Review your proposed simulation. Provide the following in your initial post; A brief summary of the problem and scope of your simulation. List your expected outcomes. List your objectives. Step 2: Describe Who the Learners/Participants; Remember to consider the education level/years of service and past experience with simulation- based learning experience; Profile of a Novice; Needs; Concerns; Profile of an Experienced Practitioner; Needs; Concerns; Profile of an Expert; Needs; Concerns; Step 3:Evaluate your Intended Outcomes & Objectives; Refresh these if needed. Point out your the changes you have made to your peers. Step 4: Map out 3 Appropriate Pre-Simulation Activities using your chosen template. This is the time to choose specific reading, videos, activities that will enhance learner readiness for participation in your designed SBE. For each activity: Identify which theories you are applying and how. Identify how these considerations prepare your participants, while meeting them at their level. Connect the dots between your preparation selections and your simulation. In other words, list your choices and tell your peers how they will support your participants. Step 5: Post your Plans on the Preparation Discussion Board; Step 6: Provide Feedback to Your Peers; Provide high quality feedback to your peers by: Considering their plans mapped against their participants. What are they missing? How can they fill in the gaps? What guidance can you offer in terms of foresight? Step 7: Update your Simulation Plan; Based on the feedback that you have received and your own knowledge acquisition, update the pre-activity section of your simulation plan using your chosen template.

Course 3 Discussion 2: Scripting Pre-briefing
Make 1 discussion post to continue.
Make 1 discussion post to continue. As in Discussion 1, this will be a multiphase discussion.  It remains an exercise in peer review. You will: Assess your pre-briefing and debriefing plans in your simulation plan. Make some refinements based on what you have learned so far. Receive and supply suggestions among your peers. Refine your preparation based on the feedback that you have received. When you have completed this task, you will return to learn more in this course. Step 1: Simulation Summary; Review your proposed simulation. Provide the following in your initial post: A brief summary of the problem and scope of your simulation. List your expected outcomes; List your objectives; You have already completed the first three steps in Discussion 1. Just use your amended description to help your peers follow your process. Step 2: Describe your Participants; Remember to consider education level and simulation experience. Profile of a Novice; Needs; Concerns; Profile of an experienced practitioner; Needs; Concerns; Profile of an expert; Needs; Concerns; Step 3: Refresh or Remind Peers of your Intended Outcomes and Objectives; Step 4: Craft a Pre-briefing script that orients participants to; The simulation and learning objectives; The environment; The roles; Clearly address and promote psychological safety. Consider scripting what this means for your simulation program. Step 5: Suggest a Planning/Engagement Activity; Suggest an appropriate planning/engagement activity to assign to your learners immediately prior to participating in the simulation. Post Steps 1-5 to the Crafting Your Script Discussion Board. Step 6: Provide Feedback to Your Peers; Provide high quality feedback to your peers by: Considering their scripts mapped against their participants and objectives. What are they missing? How can they fill in the gaps? What guidance can you offer in terms of foresight? What objectives will you disclose? Does their script fully orient participants to the simulation and its influence on the stated objectives? How? If not, what needs to be altered? Step 7: Update your Simulation Plan Based on the feedback that you have received and your own knowledge acquisition, update the Pre-briefing section your simulation plan using the template that you have chosen for your SBP.

Course 3 Discussion 3: Debriefing Methods
Make 1 discussion post to continue.
Make 1 discussion post to continue. For Discussion 3 you will select and read two articles describing two different debriefing methods. When you have completed this task, you will return to complete this course. Step 1: Select and Read Two Articles; Remind Your Peers About Your Simulation; Review your proposed simulation. Provide the following in your initial post: A brief summary of the problem and scope of your simulation. List your expected outcomes; List your objectives; Again, you have already done this step in Discussions 1 and 2. Just use your amended description to help your peers follow your process. Read your selected articles with your simulation in mind. Step 2: Summarize Each Article; Provide the following for each: Evidence of the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice (HSSOBP): Debriefing criteria discussed in this course: Competence; Environment; Evidence of debriefer’s strategy to maintain attention; Theories grounding the process; Step 3: Compatibility with your Outcomes and Objectives; Assess the methods of debriefing you discovered against your Intended Outcomes & Objectives. Describe their similarities. Outline their differences. In what ways do the methods described support your debrief? In what ways do they not? Is there one that you prefer? Why? How did you make this choice? What changes would you need to make to use this method? Step 4: Post your Analysis to the "Compare and Contrast Debriefing Methods" Step 5: Respond to the Analyzes Others have Posted Concentrate on the relationship he/she/they see(s) in the debriefing methods selected. What other observations/insights can you offer? What do you recommend be kept? Discarded? What resonates with you in terms of the methods you selected? What resources have you found in the selections of your peers? Step 6: Update your Debriefing Plan Take some time to update your debriefing plan based on the feedback from your peers and the insights that you have acquired from this course.

Course 3: Prebriefing and Debriefing Journal
Graded as Complete/Incomplete | Due Date: 10/31/2024 at 7:59 PM (EDT)
Graded as Complete/Incomplete | Due Date: 10/31/2024 at 7:59 PM (EDT) To complete each course, you are required to provide a reflective journal entry. Each entry should contain a minimum of 500 words. The document submitted should be a cumulative document with headings and dates of the course journals you are submitting. Reflection should consider this process: • Description (keep this fairly short) • Interpretation or analysis (this should be the main body of your work) • Outcome or application (ensure you draw clear application to your future practice). There are journal prompts for most course journals. These are intended to focus you on the materials that were covered in that module. Please note that some journals will have a Part I and a Part II because of the varied materials that are presented in that course. By the end of the ISEP program, your reflective journal will demonstrate your individual learning and progress as a simulation educator/practitioner.
Simulation Based Education Proposal Assignment
Graded as Complete/Incomplete | Due Date: 10/31/2024 at 7:59 PM (EDT)
Graded as Complete/Incomplete | Due Date: 10/31/2024 at 7:59 PM (EDT) Now is the time for you to begin creating and/or revising your simulation-based education proposals. You should choose a template from the ones provided and begin to design your simulation. You will be provided feedback from your facilitator on your design so the more you include the more feedback you will receive as an iterative process. Please note that your proposal should minimally include all the information that has been covered in the courses that you have just completed. If this isn't the case, you may be asked to re-submit the assignment. This is to assure that you will be able to have a finished product by the end of the 12 courses.
